The Thousand Oceans
Captain Larceri val'Mordane
An undead privateer who dedicated his unlife to his nation and his family.
Almost one hundred years ago, Larceri val’Mordane was considered one of the highest regarded privateers in the Thousand Oceans. Honorable, merciful, and precise, he made a name for himself as “The Gentle Blade” of the Carceri privateer navy, only killing two adversaries per engagement on average and exclusively high ranking officers and enemy captains. Always eager to indulge in parley rather than outright slaughter, he was respected by enemies and honored by allies. Larceri was on the fast track to admiralty when a long forgotten rival stabbed him with a disease tainted blade, sapping his strength and cutting off a promising career. As the disease progressed, he was approached by a low ranking priest of the theocracy with an unusual deal for a man of his station. In return for a century of naval servitude and a further century of naval command, he would be offered a release from his pain and a government pension for his immediate family and a monthly stipend for their descendants. However, in order to fulfill his end of the bargain, he would have to risk his soul’s destruction by becoming an undead servant of the state. He considered the offer for nearly a year as the disease slowly ate away at him, measuring the deeds of his life and waging the benefits for his family. On a cold night, in his family’s small coastal apartment, he accepted the terms. Larceri has since served his nation in any way they request, remaining true to his living morals and eager to prove his worthiness to return to Beltine’s pot upon his eventual final demise.
